After leaving the synagogue he entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her. Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and began to serve them. As the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various kinds of diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on each of them and cured them. Demons also came out of many, shouting, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Messiah. At daybreak he departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowds were looking for him; and when they reached him, they wanted to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, ‘I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.’ So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea.

While I frequently identify myself through the roles of spouse, mother, grandmother, business owner, and colleague, this passage serves as a profound reminder of my ultimate calling. Beyond these daily responsibilities lies a fundamental mission to be like Christ by sharing the transformative message of God’s Kingdom.

Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law, who immediately begins to serve, showing us that divine healing restores our capacity to love and serve others. At sunset, He personally lays hands on each individual in the gathering crowd, demonstrating tender care for every person. Afterward, Jesus retreats to pray, remaining devoted to His Father’s mission to preach the Kingdom of God in other towns. Overall, the passage highlights the importance of balancing active service with personal prayer and purpose.

Living out this calling requires a continual alignment of my heart with God’s priorities. It is easy to become consumed by the immediate demands of family and business, yet Christ’s example teaches me that effective service flows from quiet communion with the Father. When I intentionally step back to pray and seek His guidance, my daily work gains eternal significance. Every interaction, whether offering words of encouragement or extending compassionate care, becomes an opportunity to reflect His gracious presence. By relying on His strength rather than my own, I can faithfully fulfil my purpose and witness to the love that heals and restores us all.

Lord, help me to live a balanced life with you as its centre and empower me to courageously proclaim the limitless love You possess for every human heart.
