Desire to Do the Will of God

~ Memorial St Thomas Aquinas, priest, doctor ~

‘Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’ (Mk 3:35)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers a powerful invitation to each of us: ‘Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.’ As He looked at those around Him, Jesus calls us into His circle – whether in our family, community, or church, and invites us to choose the path of discipleship by doing God’s will.

The first reading underscores the essence of this obedience: ‘See God, I have come to do your will’ (Hebrews 10:7). But what is God’s will for us today? It is simple yet profound: to know, love, and serve God – to live in right relationships with God, ourselves, and others.

Today, let us take small, intentional steps to align with God’s will: perhaps spending an extra ten minutes in prayer, engaging in spiritual reading, performing an act of kindness, or even just offering a warm smile to those you meet. Remember, those we encounter today are sent to us with a purpose, inviting us to live out God’s holy desire in the world.

Let our prayer today echo this longing to fulfill God’s will: Lord, grace us to know, love, and serve You, and help others to do the same, no matter how humble the task. May the Holy Spirit inspire and empower us to live as beloved children of God, choosing Christ’s way in our everyday lives. Amen.
