Following and Trusting Christ

~ Tuesday, Week 4 of Easter ~

Acts 11:19-26; Ps 86:1-7; John 10:22-30

‘My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.’ (John 10:27)

Today’s Gospel underscores the depth of Christ’s love for us, giving us eternal life so that we should never perish nor be snatched from the Father’s hand. This is a promise of intimacy and security that is uncompromising. What does Jesus ask in return? That we hear His voice, be known by Him, and follow Him. As Christians, we have already heard the voice of Jesus and are striving to follow Him. Yet, even many of those who walked with Jesus as disciples have heard his voice but failed to believe in His love and walked away.

Let us ask ourselves how we may more faithfully respond to this call. How might we open ourselves in prayer today that we may hear His voice? How might we allow ourselves to be known by Him? How can we more earnestly follow Him with our whole lives? As we do these things, we can be reassured that we are held securely by Jesus: we are His and can always lean on Him. Take the time to remember who you are and whose you are.

+ Jesus, be with us today, help us to rest in Your hands. Allow us to listen more closely for Your voice and seek the path you set before us. Be with us, today and always. Amen.
