"I recommend The Secret Catholic as a wonderful introduction to how Catholics respond to some of the big questions about God, the world and human life - both now and into eternity."

About the book

Most of us, at some point, begin to ask ourselves tough questions: does my life have meaning? How do I find contentment? What is true happiness? What are my heart’s deepest desires, and can they be satisfied?

Nico is considering these questions and decides he might find answers in religion. He invites his old friend, a Catholic theologian, to meet at the pub for a chat.

The Secret Catholic is 22 conversations at the bar where Nico asks everything from whether God exists, to questions of whether angels and demons are real. The theologian works hard to think on his feet and answer compellingly and faithfully, but will Nico find these answers compelling? Will Nico find the life he so deeply desires in the Catholic faith?

A book meant to be discovered

Blending relatable dialogue with deep theological insight, The Secret Catholic presents the Catholic faith in an accessible, conversational way. Rather than preaching, it invites readers to explore profound questions at their own pace.

Whether you are personally searching, or simply hoping to gently share the faith with someone else, this book serves as a quiet but powerful starting point.

Peter Pellicaan, PhD

Peter Pellicaan has been having conversations about religion for as long as he can remember. He was raised the son and grandson of Church pastors and served as a protestant pastor himself for nine years before being received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Peter is a singer, songwriter, (you can find him on Spotify), an advanced skills mountain bike coach, a keen motorcyclist, a husband, father and an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church.

He is currently the Executive Director of Archdiocesan Ministries in the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. He has a Bachelor of Ministries, a Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching, a Masters in Learning and Development and a PhD in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, researching a biblical theology of the sacrament of confirmation. His vast experience engaging in conversations about religion in pubs and clubs as a musician, but also across various Christian traditions, makes his explanations of the Catholic Tradition accessible and cogent.
