Faithful and Wise Servant

Memorial St Augustine, bishop, doctor

1 Thess 3:7-13; Ps 89:3-4, 12-14, 17; Mt 24:42–51

‘Who then is the faithful and wise slave, whom his master has put in charge of this household, to give the other slaves their allowance of food at the proper time?’ (Matthew 24:45)

Who then is the faithful and wise servant? This question from Jesus lingers in my heart. It is not just about doing a job well; it is about living in trust, in relationship, in love.

My journey into spiritual motherhood has been a school of wonder. In prayer, I have learned that what truly shapes our lives is not what we have, but the choices we make with what has been entrusted to us. While this has been my personal path, the truth is universal: the call to be a faithful and wise servant is an invitation for all of us to serve from a place of deep belonging.

We are each known and loved by God. In Jesus, we are made righteous and embraced as His beloved children. This identity changes everything. It gives us the freedom to choose love over fear, service over self, and trust over anxiety.

Faithfulness is not about grand gestures. It is about the daily ‘yes,’ the quiet offering of time, energy, and care to those around us. It is about staying awake to God’s presence, knowing He walks with us, giving strength and joy to do His will.

When the Master returns, may He find us ready, not because we guessed the hour, but because we lived each moment in love.

Lord, keep our hearts awake to Your presence. Make us faithful servants who serve with joy, love with generosity, and trust You in all seasons.
