Transfiguration to Transformation
Feast The Transfiguration of the Lord
Dan 7:9-10, 13-14; Ps 96: 1-2, 5-6, 9; Lk 9:28-36
‘This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’ (Luke 9:35)
After struggling to understand or to make sense of something, we sometimes have an insight and everything becomes clearer. There is something of that happening for the disciples in this gospel of the Transfiguration.
We are told the disciples were astonished by the radiant transformation of Jesus. The challenge for us is that we too must open our hearts to encounter God in ways that surpass our understanding.
The Transfiguration reminds us of the importance of listening to God’s voice. As the disciples stood in awe, a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen: listen to him!’
In our journey of faith, we encounter various distractions and conflicting messages that can lead us from our desire to be faithful followers of Jesus. The Transfiguration calls us to focus our attention on Christ, the Word made flesh. By attentively listening to His teachings, we gain insights into living a life of love, compassion, and justice. As we follow Jesus’ example, we become bearers of God’s light, radiating His love to the world and becoming agents of transformation in our communities.
