Peace beyond this World

~ Tuesday Week 5 of Easter ~

Acts 14:19-28; Ps 144:10-13, 21; Jn 14:27-31

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.’ (John 14:27)

In today’s gospel, Jesus offers a gift that is unlike anything we can create or negotiate. This is not the peace of temporary ceasefires or surface-level calm. It is a deeper inner stillness, anchored in trust and relationship, not circumstance.

Jesus speaks these words just before facing betrayal, denial, and death. And yet, he does not flinch. He speaks peace into the storm that is coming, not to remove the hardship but to prepare the disciples to endure it without being overcome by fear.

This kind of peace is hard to describe but unmistakable when experienced. It doesn’t deny the reality of pain or injustice. Rather, it allows us to face those things with courage and clarity, because we know we are not alone. Jesus is going ahead of us, and importantly, remains with us always.

When our hearts are troubled, when the world feels unstable, we are invited to return to this promise, to not let our hearts be troubled or afraid. The peace of Christ is not about escape but is about presence, his presence with us and our presence with him.

May we be people who receive and share this peace with those we encounter today. Not as the world gives, but as Christ gives, from the depth of his love.
