It’s about how we live our lives

~ Thursday, Week 6 in Ordinary Time ~

‘But, who do you say that I am?’ (Mark 8:29)

Jesus’ question to his disciples is just as relevant today as it was in Caesarea Philippi. It’s a question that goes beyond words; it’s about how we live our lives.

Don’t you just love Peter, at first, he gets it right: ‘You are the Christ.’ But within moments, he gets it wrong, resisting Jesus’ path of suffering. He wanted a Messiah of power, not one who would suffer and die. Maybe we, too, want Jesus to fit into our own expectations, a God who fixes everything instantly, who makes life easier, who gives clear answers. Jesus doesn’t always work that way. Instead, he invites us to trust, even when life is uncertain and messy.

Our faith journey isn’t about getting the right answer; it’s about walking with Jesus, even when the going gets tough. Like Peter, we sometimes struggle to understand what discipleship really means. Following Jesus isn’t about control, success, exclusivity or comfort, rather it’s about love, service, relationship and sacrifice.

But there’s hope for all of us! Even after his mistakes, Peter wasn’t cast aside. He was transformed by his journey with Jesus. The same is true for us. When we wrestle with faith, when we question, when we fail, Jesus still walks with us.

So, who do you say Jesus is? Perhaps it’s not so much about the words, but in how you live your life. Is he just a figure from history, or is he someone who changes everything? This question isn’t just for yesterday or from days gone by; it’s for every moment as we try to live an authentic life with Jesus.
