Embracing the Unity of the Trinity

~ Sixth Sunday of Easter ~

Acts 15:1-2, 22-29; Ps 66:2-3, 5-6, 8; Rev 21:10-14, 22-23; Jn 14:23-29

‘Those who love me he will keep my word and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.’  (John 14:23)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus emphasises the unity found within the Trinity. He articulates that his words and actions are derived from the Father, highlighting their shared divinity while maintaining distinct personhood. This passage is pivotal as it reveals the mystery of the Trinity, a cornerstone of Catholic doctrine. Jesus communicates the promise of the Holy Spirit, who will remind the disciples of his teachings.

Pope Leo XIV calls for spiritual renewal, urging Christians to embrace the divine mystery of faith for the Church to be rejuvenated both personally and collectively. Faith becomes a catalyst for change, empowering individuals to reflect God’s love in their lives and communities. This transformation is not just personal but communal, fostering a sense of unity among Christians. Unity that has its perfection in the Holy Trinity.

‘So, let us move forward, without fear, together, hand in hand with God and with one another other! We are followers of Christ. Christ goes before us. The world needs his light. Humanity needs him as the bridge that can lead us to God and his love. Help us, one and all, to build bridges through dialogue and encounter, joining together as one people, always at peace.’ (Pope Leo XIV Inaugural Address and Blessing)

Pope Leo reminds us that unity is essential for the Church to effectively address contemporary moral challenges. By coming together, Christians can better embody Christ’s teachings and extend His love to a fractured world.
