Jesus Amazes You!

Saturday Week 12 in Ordinary Time

Gen 18:1-15; Lk 1:46-50, 53-55; Mt 8:5–17

‘Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.’ (Matthew 8:8)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is astonished by the centurion’s words – an expression of deep faith and humility. Reflecting on my own journey, I see how what once amazed me has changed. As a younger person, I was impressed by celebrities and public figures. Now, I find myself moved by simpler, more profound realities.

I am amazed by the quiet witness of faith in our religious sisters, their life of humble service, and their deep trust in God. I admire the compassion shown to our elderly residents, the generosity of those who serve, and the openness of young people to the Holy Spirit. These everyday acts speak powerfully of God’s love.

I marvel at how God creates each person uniquely in His image. I’m in awe of how Jesus gazes at me with mercy, especially when I feel unworthy. It humbles me to think that Jesus could be amazed by me when I acknowledge my need for Him.

As Jesus’ disciple, I ask: Does what amazes me align with what amazes Jesus? Do I allow Him to be moved by my faith, my vulnerability, my trust? What in me might bring Him joy and wonder?

Lord Jesus, grant me the faith to see your loving gaze upon me. Come, Holy Spirit, and fill me with the gift of wonder at your presence in my life and in others. Amen.
