A life anchored in faith
~ Saturday, Week 3 in Ordinary Time ~
And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’ (Mark 4:41)
The disciples’ question, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?’ calls us into prayerful reflection. Amid the chaos of the storm, Jesus stands—not distant from fear, but steadfastly prevailing over it. His words, ‘Peace! Be still!’ reveal not only his authority over nature but also the power to calm the storms within us, offering us peace amid our own storms.
Jesus’ rebuke, ‘Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?’ challenges our hearts. Fear can tempt us to rely on our own strength, but here, Jesus invites us to trust in the one who is always present. Faith is not about escaping life’s storms; it is about believing in the one who journeys with us through them.
To know Jesus is to recognise that he is our Saviour. He does not promise a life free from trials but assures us of his steadfast presence and peace. This passage reminds us that Jesus transcends both physical and metaphorical storms. When we turn to Him, he can lead us through the chaos, offering a peace that surpasses understanding.
The real question is whether we are willing to trust Him fully—to call on Him with wholehearted surrender. In doing so, we encounter Christ Jesus, our Saviour, the anchor in every storm. Let us rest in his peace and proclaim with faith, ‘He is enough.’
As we sit with this story, may we find the courage to trust in Jesus, to rest in his peace, and to confidently declare, ‘Who then is this?’ He is our Saviour, our Lord, the one who brings calm to our chaos. In him, we find a life anchored in faith, even amidst the storm.
