Filled with Awe and Great Joy

~ Monday within the Octave of Easter ~

Acts 2:14, 22-33; Ps 15:1-2, 5, 7-11; Mt 28:8-15

‘Go to Galilee; and there they will see me (Matthew 28:10)

This day after the resurrection of Jesus, the experience of Mary Magdalene who went to the tomb was fresh in the minds and hearts of the disciples.  The women had found an empty tomb, but they were ‘filled with awe and great joy’ because they had met the risen Jesus who comforted them, ‘Do not be afraid…’ They wanted to share their experience and went to meet the disciples of Jesus.

The doubt and fear in the hearts of the disciples was overcome by hearing the joy of the news that Jesus was alive; their fear of the future was about to change.  The joy and peace of the risen Jesus would be their strength.

May the peace and joy of the risen Jesus be the source of our constant witness as we live our call to discipleship.  Listen with open and trust-filled hearts!
