Laudato Si' Action Plan

what is laudato si'?

Laudato Si’ is the Pope Francis’ second encyclical and carries the subtitle ‘on Care for Our Common Home’. In the encyclical, Pope Francis calls on us to embrace integral ecology and he challenges us to hear the cries of the earth and the cries of the poor as one. He critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming and calls us on a journey of ecological conversion that fuels us to respond concretely by taking “swift and unified global action”.

what is A laudato si' action plan?

The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform is a space for institutions, communities, and families to learn and grow together as we journey towards full sustainability in the holistic spirit of integral ecology.

The Archdiocese of Brisbane has signed up via the Vatican platform to launch our plans over the years.  Each plan helps us journey towards greater love for our Creator, each other, and the home we share.  In doing this, the Archdiocese of Brisbane makes a strong commitment to take action to embrace Pope Francis’ vision of integral ecology.

why have a laudato si' action plan?

Teams plan to support meaningful and productive action.  By establishing plans we promote dialogue, research and strategic thinking that lay the foundations for powerful and timely action.  Pope Francis says in Laudato Si’: “God, who calls us to generous commitment and to give him our all, offers us the light and the strength needed to continue on our way” (Paragraph 245). Completing thorough planning in prayer is our best way to meet the challenges of our social and climate crises.

Decree 8 of the Plenary Council also calls us to create Laudato Si’ Action Plans.  It asks all Catholic organisations and people to “join the Laudato Si’ Action Platform and either develop Laudato Si’ Action Plans, or participate in existing Laudato Si’ Action Plans”.

The complexity of a plan is determined by the needs of the writing group.  The vital step in achieving meaningful actions, is to start with a clear plan.
