Luke 21:29‐33

NRSV

Then he told them a parable: ‘Look at the fig tree and all the trees; as soon as they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Love the Word Everlasting

‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.’ (Luke 21:33)

Jesus uses the simple image of a fig tree to teach us how to recognise the signs of God’s presence. Just as new leaves signal the coming of summer, so too the joys and trials of our lives reveal the nearness of God’s Kingdom. Amid all that changes, one thing endures forever: the Word of God.

Everything in this world: our plans, possessions, and even the seasons will fade. Yet the Word of God remains forever, steady, and life-giving. When we root our hearts in His Word, we learn to see beyond what passes away and to live from what endures. The Word becomes our anchor, our compass, and our hope.

In my own journey as a religious sister, I have discovered that it is not great deeds but daily fidelity to God’s Word that shapes and strengthens the soul. I love the Word deeply and each time I pray with Scripture, I am reminded that His Word is alive: it speaks, comforts, and calls me to love more deeply. Slowly, it transforms me from within.

In a world that often seeks what is fleeting, Jesus invites us to love what lasts, to let His Word dwell in us richly, to allow it to take root and bear fruit that will never perish.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the gift of Your everlasting Word made flesh among us. Teach us to listen, to love, and to live by Your Word each day, that we may grow in faith and remain steadfast in Your love. Amen.
