Let Your Light Shine

~ Tuesday, Week 10 of Ordinary Time ~

2 Cor 1:18-22; Ps 118:129-133, 135; Mt 5:13-16

‘You are the light of the world.’ (Matthew 5:14)

In a society that pressures us to blend in, Jesus’ call to us today is to be a light in the world. Easier said than done.

I am hesitant to let my light shine. Don’t stand too tall and you aren’t a risk of being cut down to size, and nobody wants to be accused of being ‘full of themselves’.

But the light within us is the light of Christ, gifted to us at our baptism. When we let that shine, it brings our gifts, uniqueness, and strengths into the light. Likewise, it shines a light on the gifts and uniqueness in others too.

We are people of the light ‘you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people. In order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of Him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.’ (1 Peter 2:9)

God is not served by us hiding our gifts, the Church is not served by us hiding our gifts. Step out and let the light of Christ shine within you and be a light unto the world.

+Jesus, today give us the opportunity to step out in our gifts and strengths. Prompt us and encourage us to let your light within us shine and light a way for those around us to be led to you. Amen.
