Laudato Si' Action Plan
what is laudato si'?
Laudato Si’ is the Pope Francis’ second encyclical and carries the subtitle ‘on Care for Our Common Home’. In the encyclical, Pope Francis calls on us to embrace integral ecology and he challenges us to hear the cries of the earth and the cries of the poor as one. He critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming and calls us on a journey of ecological conversion that fuels us to respond concretely by taking “swift and unified global action”.
Christmas Spirit!
An ethically sound Christmas is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season while positively impacting the world and your Christmas budget! The key to combating overconsumption at Christmas is the same as combatting overconsumption in general – consume intentionally! Only buy what you need, and when you do, try to buy with the earth and the community in mind.

You are invited to the Interfaith Prayer Vigil, Together for Our Common Home.
This event combines us as one community, in prayer for the care of our common home. We pray for Australian communities experiencing either extreme heat, rising sea levels or increased weather events, especially in the Kimberley, Torres Strait Islands and Palm Island and also extending our care and prayers for those facing the impacts of climate change in neighbouring Pacific nations. The timing of this vigil is in the week before the First Conference on the Transition Away from Fossil Fuels, and so we pray for courage, compassion and wisdom for the leaders from the many countries who will be working together to address the climate crisis.
Join us on the 21st with the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission as we pray in hope, love and peace.
All are welcome to join the Brisbane Justice and Peace Commission as we hold our 18th Good Friday Prayer Vigil for those on Death Row at Christ the King Catholic Church, Churchill Street, Graceville (3rd April at 12noon).
It is an opportunity for Christians to offer prayer support for all those facing execution around the world, for their families and for all victims of crime.
The vigil is a moving testament to the power of prayer in community. Together we uphold the importance of love, human dignity and justice for all on Good Friday; a day when we truly remember the way Jesus, Mary and his followers faced his brutal execution. Like Jesus, we turn to God and pray that God’s love will heal the pain and suffering in our world.
what is A laudato si' action plan?
The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform is a space for institutions, communities, and families to learn and grow together as we journey towards full sustainability in the holistic spirit of integral ecology.
The Archdiocese of Brisbane has signed up via the Vatican platform to launch our plans over the years. Each plan helps us journey towards greater love for our Creator, each other, and the home we share. In doing this, the Archdiocese of Brisbane makes a strong commitment to take action to embrace Pope Francis’ vision of integral ecology.
why have a laudato si' action plan?
Teams plan to support meaningful and productive action. By establishing plans we promote dialogue, research and strategic thinking that lay the foundations for powerful and timely action. Pope Francis says in Laudato Si’: “God, who calls us to generous commitment and to give him our all, offers us the light and the strength needed to continue on our way” (Paragraph 245). Completing thorough planning in prayer is our best way to meet the challenges of our social and climate crises.
Decree 8 of the Plenary Council also calls us to create Laudato Si’ Action Plans. It asks all Catholic organisations and people to “join the Laudato Si’ Action Platform and either develop Laudato Si’ Action Plans, or participate in existing Laudato Si’ Action Plans”.
The complexity of a plan is determined by the needs of the writing group. The vital step in achieving meaningful actions, is to start with a clear plan.
