Daily Gospel Reflections

Today’s Scripture Readings
Luke 12:35‐38
‘Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

Reflection
Being Ready
‘Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes;’ (Luke 12:37)
The challenge from the gospel today is: How open am I to respond to God’s call? Our openness of heart, being aware of God’s presence speaks of the power of always ‘being ready!’
‘Here I am Lord, I come to do your will’ (Psalm 39) is prayed in today’s Liturgy of the Word. It gives the direction for us to respond to God’s action in our lives, even at times when this may be unexpected.
Through the busy-ness of our daily responsibilities, it can often be a challenge for us to find the quiet moments to be aware of God’s presence and movement in all that is happening. Maybe this is a call for us to embrace some moments at the conclusion of our day to reflect on those moments when we were conscious of ‘being open to God’s presence’ and rejoicing in the unexpected experience of God’s presence, as we’ve lived out this call from the gospel to witness to God’s presence wherever we are called to serve our sisters and brothers.
